Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around St. Athan

Streets Brasserie

4 Broad St, Barry CF62 7AA, UK – 01446 721440

One of my favourite places to eat, lovely and cosy feel to the place. Food is not adventurous by any means, but it doesn’t have to be. If you like tasty hearty food that is hand prepared, then you won’t regret trying it.

Lovely restaurant, lovely staff and of course awesome food.

Brewers Fayre Barry Island (Cardiff Airport)

The Waterfront, Ffordd Y Mileniwm, Barry CF62 5AB, UK – 01446 724971

Very tasty Vegan burgers. Well put together and presented. Friendly, attentive staff. Not great chips but rest of the meal was lovely. Seriously over the moon to find a really good Vegan burger! 💜💜💜

Monday 21/8/17 - we had no reservations, manager & staff were very accommodating seeing as we were a party of 14 (adults & children). Staff were very friendly. We were seated quickly. Only bad comment is food took over half hr to arrive, bit it was delicious. Tuesday 22/8/17 - completely different to yesterday. Manager was not in a good mood at all, quite rude. Food was delivered quick, but it looked like it had been thrown on the plates. Also 1 meal took forever to arrive apparently there was a mix up with the tickets!! Try telling that to a 2yr old..

Hang Fire Southern Kitchen

The Pumphouse, Hood Rd, Barry CF62 5BE, UK

Didn't disappoint! I've tried the pop up stall a few times at food festivals etc and I admit I did wonder if the novelty of it all would be a little lost in a permanent premises but boy was I wrong! Food is as impeccable as it has always been and the welcome is twice as warm. Plus I really noticed that unlike many other meat related establishments I didn't leave there smelling like a smoked burger myself - impressive. Menu is meaty as you would expect although there is a token vegetarian choice on the dinner menu that my wife ordered and it looked so delicious I almost wished I'd ordered it myself....almost ☺ I personally can recommend the brisket and burnt ends....delicious. So in short I thoroughly enjoyed my food experience here, the location is perfect and I really hope they continue to flourish.

Visited Hang Fire a few years ago when they were doing pop ups at different pubs around Cardiff. The food was good then but have recently their dedicated restaurant. The taste and quality has come leaps and bounds I’d say. I had the bit boss which gives a selection of meats, the bones fall straight off the meat the in house mustard is something special also. Their craft beer they make with Crafty devil is also very good. Will certainly be back again, I just won’t leave as long this time round. Also staff were brilliant, human and personal. Bit of a rarity these days.
