Holiday Inn Express

Port Rd, Rhoose, Cardiff CF62 3BT, UK – 01446 711117

Nice budget hotel right next to Cardiff Airport. Stopped here after a late night flight from Edinburgh. 10 minute walk (maximum) from Cardiff Airport so very convenient. Staff very friendly and welcoming, even at 11pm! Room was standard for a hotel - double bed with additional couch bed, bathroom with shower cubicle and desk with TV. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room also. Each person also gets breakfast included in price. Breakfast was standard continental with 4-item cooked buffet available (sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and beans). Fresh baps also available to make takeaway breakfast sandwiches - this is encouraged by staff if you are heading to the airport! Last bonus... Free WiFi is available! All in all, good stay and will use again if in Cardiff!

Located quite near the airport in Cardiff, the holiday inn offers reasonably priced accommodation. It's a little out from Cardiff itself but you can get transport from the airport - taxis can be booked from inside the airport terminal itself. The room was clean and tidy, bed was comfortable and I'd happily stay here again when next I'm in Cardiff.

Celtic International Hotel

Port Rd, Rhoose, Barry CF62 3BT, UK – 01446 500595

If you are flying out of Cardiff airport this hotel will be great due to the location shuttle service and value for money. We stayed for one night as a we spent the day in Cardiff. Service was friendly and helpful. The night we stayed there was various young dance troupes staying as well, which made apparent how thin the walls were and how loud the doors bang! Overall however, the bed was comfy and all the usual things you expect in a hotel were present. I would stay here again and would recommended this hotel if in the Barry area.

Spacious, quiet and friendly reception. The breakfast was very nice indeed. The family room was practical and the bathroom was functional and clean. The double bed seemed to sink towards the middle. There was only one spare socket that I could see in the room and none by the beds. I would stay again but only if I found a better price as we payed £90 for 1 night without breakfast.

Premier Inn Barry Island Cardiff Airport

Triangle Site, The Waterfront, Ffordd Y Mileniwm, Barry, Cardiff CF62 5QN, UK – 0871 527 9370

We decided on this Premier Inn after reading the reviews on line and we were not disappointed. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms were modern and clean and bed linen and towels were soft and new. The room was warm and quiet. Have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Large clean room, with plenty of space available when sofa has been converted into two single beds. Facilities are modern and clean, with tea and coffee making facilities available in the room.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

Harbour Rd, Barry CF62 5SB, UK – 01446 729060

What you would expect from a Hungry Horse. The menu is standard but offers a good selection at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and helpful politely dealing with an occasional complaint. Pleasant garden and play area. Also very handy for at least some bus stops.

Seen better days. Good food. Indoor and outdoor play areas. Prices are fine but check if the indoor play area is open first!

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Really thoughtful touches in the cottage and felt welcome from the moment I opened the door. Lovely views to be enjoyed with a glass on the balcony. Great location for the coast, local villages and quick access to Cardiff. Really lucky to find this cottage.
